Recovering Deleted Files With The Help Of A Friend
Deleted files that can't be recovered easily drive me crazy. You know the feeling - it's so easy to delete files. Then it's the oh what have I done and what do I do panic attack. Well, here's what I did to recover my data. Hopefully, it will help you do the same.
I had been working on a project for about a month, and accidentally deleted files from a section of my research report that I thought was on my backup drive. Then I did what most everyone does: I emptied the recycle bin, which means bye-bye deleted files. At least that is what I thought.
Calling My Friend
I called a friend of mine who knows the tech stuff about computers, and he said that I needed a file undelete utility to recover deleted files. He mentioned that there were some free undelete Windows programs if I had the time to try them out.
He went on to explain that deleted files, and files that have been emptied from the recycle bin are removed from their original location, but they still exist. How is that?, I asked in disbelief.
This is how he explained file undelete: The computer makes a note of the space that the deleted files occupy, allowing new information to be saved there. Until the deleted file or the space occupied by a deleted file is replaced by a new file, the deleted file is still there. So, if new data has not been written over your deleted files, then you can recover your documents. The trick is to stop creating new information and to find the right tool to get your original files back.
What I Did
Once I knew how to undelete a file, I started searching the Internet and came across an unbelievable amount of choices for recovering deleted files. Now I understand what my friend meant by, '...if I was willing to download and try them all out.' Well, what I did was download a free program, and one that was about thirty dollars.
Both undelete software worked. The free one I tried first, and it recovered some of my deleted files. Then I tried the paid program, and it recovered almost all of my project files, even the ones I recovered with the free version. So, my advice is to try both and see what if you get the deleted files back. Hope this has helped you.
